I like the detail in the buds.
The DOF works here, but it's close to being too thin.
The bright leaf at the top is a bit distracting. Perhaps some subtle vignette could help with that.

Thanks for the comments, sleist. I see what you're talking about with the white leaf. Instead of a vignette, I tried adding a GND filter in the top right corner, bringing it down nearly a full stop, and I think it helped with balancing the frame a little more. I also decided to clone it out all together, which I think I like even more. Here's the touched up version.

Here's another one I edited from the same set. At first I didn't like this one as much, but it's grown on me. I was focusing on the detail in the center of the bud, though as you noted with the first one, the DOF I think is about 1/4" too shallow for optimal results here. On this one, like the first as well, I was unfortunately about to the limits with the aperture, and I couldn't have gone any smaller with the available light.. Oh well, something to strive for next time.

I see what looks like frost on the flower buds, so I was thinking of something that refers to the frost, but nothing came readily to mind. Then I thought of "gilding the lily", and of course this is not a lily bud, and it's not actually gold, but more like silver (color-wise), but still nothing, but i hope I have helped get your own creative instinct working.
