This may sound stupid, but what od you mean by "upgrade fee"?

The fee you pay to upgrade Photoshop from CS2 to 3 to 4 etc....

so once you have one of them, you can just pay a fee to upgrade instead of paying for the whole thing, like you never had it before?

Adobe licensees are transferable. The price from ANY version to the newest version is the same. It's Adobe's way of being cool - for people who can think instead of rip.
