I like the shot, but I get distracted trying to figure out the red door, especially in a black and white. No matter what I do, I can't keep my eyes on the dome and the great sky - I'm drawn down to street level looking for that d@mned door. But then maybe it's because it's almost midnight after two hours straight on the road.

Not only is there not a red door, there isn't even a black and white one either. No door. wtf?

as far as the image...without the door issue...

it's pretty flat looking, seemingly all gray, and the composition is very uninteresting.

sorry for the downer...just how I see it. ;-)

I came back to this one several times. As a straight B&W there's something odd about it that I just can't put my finger on. A little more contrast might help, but I'm not sure that's the only issue. For one thing the bush in front looks strange. I know I mentioned oversharpening on your forest photo, but to me, this appears the same way. The textures towards the back on the building also has a strange texture. Sorry CB, this one just isn't working for me.

Confusing title, me thinks. The red door is on the other side. Perhaps my next post in the general gallery will help you to understand the title a little more.

This doesn't quite work for me either, although I don't see anything "wrong" with it in terms of composition, tonality, etc. After looking at it for a while the only thing I can come up with is that the roof lines and dome are much more interesting than anything else in the frame, so I just feel frustrated that they seem so far away. The upper half of this image, cropped on both sides, would be a strong image, imo - what you would get from more or less the same spot with a lens about double the focal length.

There's too much stuff in the frame. It seems to be "about" the dome and the cross on top of it, but then there's this big expanse of sort of interesting wall, and then this curved shadow that leads us strongly off to noplace, and so on.

The dome and the cross actually work pretty well for me. Like the red door, it's it's just a thing, but it's a thing fraught with subtext and so on. There's enough symbolism in the cross and the dome for me, a white western guy, to get something from it. Maybe not a lot, but there's something these to hook an emotional reaction to, to evoke some memories and ideas. The sky is pretty good too. I feel like there was a better photograph here emphasizing the cross/dome/sky and eliding much of the other material (of course, now we're starting to wander into the land of overdone cliches, eh?)

And now I swear I am going to (try to) not comment on any of your stuff until I have something positive to say! I like a lot of your work, I promise! Just not, you know, these ones.

At least you got some replies i don't think i got any for my post "Autumn colours in B+W"
