Never used one but it’s on the wish list. I took an arc class a number of years ago (made a paperweight) and I’ve brazed a mounting bracket on a car seat frame using Mapp gas

Keep meaning to do this, but haven't got around to it yet

I just need to get proper chains for it...I guess Harbor Freight sells decent G70 chains. Once I get a set of chains I can test it out.

It's been a rainy day, decided to clean up, test and throw a roll of film in another one of my eBay finds. I'm excited to see the results from this cute little guy.

The night is cold enough to need a coat if you're out for a walk, but on the edge of late Spring. I took some night pictures and there are a good number of stars. April tended to be overcast day and night. The moon is almost full. It looked like 7/8 -- just a bit hidden. It's nice to see the stars again.

FYI, welding iron to steel is unreliable. When you use that hook, always remember that it could snap off. It will snap off eventually, and best to avoid injury when it does.

They are designed to be welded on like this. My tractor doesn't have enough power to break these.

Btw they are forged steel.

The hook looks like cast iron, but must be cast steel. My bad.

Definitely not cast iron, forged steel.

My bad. They are actually alloy steel which is even stronger haha. G100 alloy. Still forged though. According to the specs it will take around like 30k pounds to break. The welds are actually doubled with 70k pound tensile strength. I'm really confident they won't break, I think I'll break something in the tractor before they fail. Not that I intend to use it for anything crazy...they are just grab hooks to hold stuff or pick up things...my tractor doesn't have the capability to break these haha.

@nerwin Your tractor is like mine, either the weld would break OR the bucket steel before those hooks. I see a lot of recommendations to use a bolt on flange AND weld, but that's way overkill for the tractor capacity and weight.

I'm really confident in them. Don't plan on abusing them, just there to lift things up, especially out of the truck!

Rain, today. We've decided to stay one more day and head back tomorrow morning; driving straingt through. The funeral for the Chief is Monday, then I'll head back on Wednesday with MLSIL in tow. She has decided to stay until after son #1 visits, in a few weeks. MLW will stiuck around the MD house and work on getting it ready for sale.

S. Ontario's long cold winter finally yielded to spring. Everything pops so quickly. Lawnmower noises replace snowblower racket. Bulbs are up. First signs of new spuds in the gro-bags. New roses planted at the family ruin. Doing some serious reclamation/redesign of old beds there--major cut-downs and removal of ailing, over-grown shrubs. Rediscovered the old well dug sometime in the 1830s. New dogwoods planted in spots where the old stuff was. Don't mind a couple blisters and a stiff back for 24hrs. Best Mother's Day wishes!

It was more or less the same thing around here, weather wise. According to the History feature on the AccuWeather app, several days have been much cooler or wetter than the same day last year.

But it's been a beautiful last several days - sunshine every day, warmer temps, and everything popping into bloom.

We suddenly have our usual orioles showing up at the feeder, and have had some hummingbird sightings, too.

It's on. :boogie:
