The Coffee House

I went boot shopping today. I really didn't think I'd spend several hours in the store. But what a coincidence...I went there today and it was their grand opening. They had a live band, free stuff and was a fun experience. Soon as you walked in, all you could smell is leather and nothing else haha.

I been looking for some decent work boots for my landscaping work and driveway resurfacing jobs. I had someone help me try to find a good pair but he kept recommending me cowboy work boots with wide toe box with composite toe, they were really nice but were $400! I didn't want to try them on because I was afraid I would like them.

I tried on many...many...many boots and settled on these being the most comfortable.

These are Danner boots, never owned any by them but I hear they make great boots. These are waterproof, non slip and has alloy toe. Fairly lightweight but not as light as others. I wanted boots that were breathable but finding boots that are waterproof and breathable is rather hard. Can't have it all. But for $169, I thought I got a good pair of boots that will be great for working with the tractor. They are real leather too.
I think they look great! As long as they're comfortable and get the job done- you've done very well.

Nice. I may have to check into those. I have a swollen calf most of the time so boots are generally not very comfortable. I also have a problem with most socks.

In Toronto we had Kodiaks by Greb. I bought a pair. The steel toes can be an issue if you have athletes foot. You can't scratch, or even rub them unless you take off the boots. And they don't breath well, so athletes foot is hard to avoid. I don't know if I still have them.

Is anyone watching the "When Life Gives You Tangerines" series on Netflix? I can't watch it right now. If it comes out on DVDs later (Netflix would argue against that idea) I might see it then.

We survived the "Megastorm", most of the bad stuff went north or south of us, all we got was some rain and thunder. All told there were a couple dozen possible tornadoes touched down. Lot of property damage, trees and power lines down, but amazingly no fatalities.

Is that the one with Mandarin subtitles? Orange you glad I stopped by?

I've just been hearing about it this last half hour. It seems to be heading east now.

Apparently S Korea went through a combination drought and recession around 1950's. In North America we generally didn't. The story is about a couple of families that went through that period. It was also a period of social change with women entering the work force. I don't know that much about Korean social/political history.

Ah, yes, the weather. . . .

It was hard to describe. Around 11:15 I was out walking with some light drizzle. By around noon I was in a pizza shop eating lunch and it was a major dump of rain that lasted maybe 15 min. Then it pushed off, leaving almost nothing falling until I got home. Now it's starting up and stopping alternatively. From what I've seen, I expect this to continue for hours. I have a picture that I'll post later.

I finally saw reports of what happened around Alabama, Mississippi and around there. We'll help as best as we can, but Canada is more used to fire problems than floods. . . .

Nasty weather. Steady rain here for the last 18hrs that's melted nearly all the residual snow. Crocus and snowdrops popping up means farewell to a gawdawful winter.
Sincerely hope none of the inmates here became stats in the US weather disasters--fingers crossed...

Looks like the bad pun filter is down again...Staff notified.

Hosers! Looks like we're in the path of this nasty spring storm that's so large, it stretches from up here in Michigan all the way south to Texas, where high winds are reported to have knocked over semi-trailer trucks off the highway. :icon_eek:

It's not forecast to be quite that windy up here, but the local meteorologists are doing their best to scare the crap out of us. Likely to lose power at some point tomorrow.

Yay, spring! It's been gorgeous all week. We reached 72°F today.

To our St. Louis members: @Ysarex and @webestang64 , and @CherylL in Illinois: stay safe! ❤️

Fortunately no damage at our home. It was odd that when the front came thru our area of Illinois, it looked like it split in two. We still had heavy winds and hail. Just North and South of us had large hail and heavy wind gusts. We were in the basement. Quincy was on the couch with me, Oscar was laying on my photography fake floor and puppy Oliver had the zoomies.

Sounds like it is an interesting cultural study. South Korea went through immense changes after WW2.

Today was a nice, sunny day. Did a fair amount of post-Winter cleanup work in the yard, but with every nice thing there comes a downside. I've been sneezing my head off all day long now. I planted both Major Wheeler honeysuckles in 5 gallon grow bags and have a flat top arbor on order that should arrive on Tuesday. I also transplanted a dwarf lemon cypress in a 5 gal. grow bag and transplanted a volunteer Korean Mulberry into a larger container. Planted Zinnia and Autumn Beauty sunflower seeds in some old planter boxes and cut back the purple salvia to allow for new growth, and added soil to the Butterfly Milkweed box. Also did a mow, scalping the back lawn where clover isn't growing yet, and overseeded with more clover and creeping thyme. Winter is officially behind us.

Lucky you! Spring is still in the wings here. Lots of prep ongoing for annuals and veg. The kid did well with his micro-greens in the basement--amaranth a fave! Trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake early next month for roses for the family ruin. Happy to see the end of snowblowers, shovels and ice salt.
