What's new

The Coffee House

Yep, windy drive up today. I’m glad the trailer was not empty.

I been looking at the Pentax KF, seems like a decent price right now (I have discounts on Amazon right now). With the 18-55 kit lens, would make the total cost like $650 for a camera that has 24mp, full weather sealing, metal chassis, IBIS, nice viewfinder. Granted its a DSLR but would be a low introduction back into photography. Just something I'm considering, especially now that I can't afford the Nikon Z system I once had.

I still use Pentax lenses. The quality tended to range from "very good" to "excellent".

I decided to give it a shot. Seems like an excellent camera for the money and gets me back into the hobby at a much lower price that the $4k I had invested in the full frame mirrorless setup that I didn't take full advantage of all the time.

Happy Friday, hosers! Anyone have fun weekend plans afoot?

Beautiful day here - 80°F! We're grilling out tonight, since this weather won't hold. My crocuses are finally unfolding their blooms. Been a chilly spring!

I am replacing a ceiling lamp. The bolts are a bit too short for my liking so I will either go back to the store and get longer bolts or get some washers/nuts to keep the plate (lamp attaches to that) far enough out it doesn't keep going into the ceiling when I try to attach the base. The girl scouts were in one location selling their cookies, so there's a thing if they are still there tomorrow.

I bought a couple Blue Rug Junipers, so I'll try to get them in the ground; probably around my rock.

If there is time after that, I may go exporing a bit. Or I may drop a line in the lake. Or I may draw and paint. Or I may just do nothing at all. I love being retired. 😃

Yup. Cool a.m. shifted to drizzle(Japanese friends call it "mouse piss")and freaky warm late aft. Still not free of killing frosts so no tender stuff planted till next month. Clean-up at the family ruin early next month but maybe sooner. New old roses to be planted there. Experimental artichokes for here--seedlings looking spooky, almost like "Last of Us" cast. BBQ lamb on Monday.Long week just ending. Holiday eat-drink-a-thon just starting--yay!

It came in today. They don't allow batteries to have any charge so I have to wait to let it charge before I can play with it but first impressions are that it feels like a more premium camera than your other entry level cameras. It does have a rugged like feeling and the viewfinder while smaller than the Z6II I had, it's incredibly bright and clear, like crystal clear. Last time I had a DSLR was a Nikon D610 and it wasn't as clear as this.

I like that it's K mount so I can natively mount all the awesome vintage Pentax glass which should be fun. Brings me back to when I started photography.

It's a lot more smaller than I thought, but it's also quite a bit chunky too. It looks nice though, almost reminiscent of their larger medium format line, especially with the green light around the shutter button. That's really cool.

Everyone raves about the sensor, it has good IQ and colors or so I am told. It's unique I guess?

It may not be my forever camera but it's good enough for now until I can save up to buy something better. I am looking forward to getting some old glass for it.

There's a pancake lens I wanna get which will be really fun!

Gorgeous weather here this weekend. Warm partly sunny nice breeze. I guess this is going to be our three days of spring.

Been puttering around the garden all weekend. And by puttering, I mean, working my butt off, covered in dirt, 10k steps.

I knocked out about half of my spring to do list over the past three days. Princess has been home from school so I put her to work and she was very helpful.

I’m hosting Easter dinner tomorrow for nine of us. The menu is prime rib with mac & cheese and Texas roadhouse style honey rolls along with the usual assortment of veggies and appetizers. Happy Easter to all who celebrate!

I have the front door and the living room deck doors open. Zoe runs between then getting outside air but any car that goes by (not many) she runs away.

Finished the darned ceiling lamp. I found some nylon spacers that seem toi be OK, though 1/4" is not enough and 1/2" is too much. I'll look for 3/8" whenever I get back to Auburn ("the City"). I took some shots of the back yard to try and figure out what to do with it. I'm leaning toward flagstone stairs (shallow rise) along the north edge, as that is the steepest, and use some ground cover, like the juniper and some phlox, on the steeper part. The rock will get ferns, black-eyed susans, and maybe some cone flowers.

Nice! I happen to like the compact feel of certain Pentax cameras - my own MZ-S included. The grip is comfortable too.

Congrats on the new toy!

Have fun! Dinner sounds delicious and I'm sure you have that garden much closer to a semblance of order. Time well spent! Have fun tomorrow!

We'll need pictures once you get everything planted around the rock. I love your rock!

I'm actually not really liking it haha. It's too small for me width wise. The kit lens is terrible. It's a neat camera with some interesting bits. I like the color from it. But unfortunately I think my photography days are just gone, I thought I'd enjoy it again but turns out I'm just not feeling it and that's okay. I had to give it a try. Still going to shoot film once in a while and that's good enough for me really.

Give it time, might grow on you. I've been struggling with a photography funk lately, in my case it's more about being overwhelmed with to many things consuming my time at once.
