What's new

The Coffee House

It's been a whirlwind two weeks, as we attended graduation exercises for our two oldest grandsons. Gabe graduated Cum Laude from Kennesaw State University in GA with a degree in Chemistry last week. Will graduated Suma Cum Laude from Mississippi State University with a degree in International Engineering. To say I'm a proud Papa these two outstanding young men would be an understatement. Gabe hasn't fully decided, but thinks he's going to try working, Will was offered a position in a MSU research project, that will pay his tutiion to pursue a Masters and provide a nice stipend to live on.
Good for them! Congrats!

Close enough - Smiling Hill Farms and Hannaford (the main grocery store in Maine)

The Goat Cuddling. Mama (Ruth) and baby #1; MLSIS (cropped out) and baby #2. Crop on #2 is because MLSIL does not like her photo posted. Baby #2 actually fell asleep in MLSIL's arms.

I don't know anything about petting farms, but I'll trouble you for that goat! :586:

Victoria's Day, Toronto:

Here's your trivia for the day: For some reason, Victoria's Day (today) is a fireworks night in Toronto, and the rest of Ontario -- but not so much anywhere else in Canada. In fact, from what I know, it's no big deal in England either. Anyway, there were fireworks from about 21:00. I didn't watch them this year. Sometimes I do. Why are there fireworks in Ontario for Victoria's day? I think it's a matter of we don't have many other reasons to set off fireworks. I can't think of any thing else. . . .

I'm drained. Which is ironic because it's raining right now. It's past midnight so, yesterday, the wind broke my favorite umbrella. I still have one left, I think. Actually, I think I broke two so far. The latest was a golf umbrella -- very large and heavy duty. I couldn't believe it when it collapsed. I think the wind was +30 mph. It was a crazy strong gust. I don't feel like shopping for another one right now. Not a great day. . . .

Fishing was non-productive the other day; I guess we had a cold front come through so they stopped feeding.

I took MLSIL to the LL Bean flagship store in Freeport, yesterday, as she has never been. She came home with a sweater and a flannel shirt, and we looked at a porch glider. MLW will look at it when she comes up in a couple weeks. I stayed away from the Fishing & Hunting store.

Sent out a couple rolls of film the other day. I try to send more than three but I don't know when or if I'll get to other rolls of film I have and one of them is a roll from an untested Canon Autoboy that I'm excited to see and hope there are photos on it haha.

First time fishing on the boat with LIL'BIT. I will say it was an "experience". Amazing how small an 18' bass boat is when you have an energetic 9yr old swinging a rod around with a sharp hook at the end. How one of us didnt get snagged is a miracle. I will say that having never cast before she was a quick learner, and not the least bit squeamish about baiting her hook. Didn't catch anything but a lot of fun. I may have a fishing buddy, going forward but need to remember duct tape for her mouth or ear plugs for me next time.😁

This morning's fishing excursion started off good. Lil'Bit (on her own) set her alarm to wake up at 5am, so just as the sun was breaking I felt someone poking my foot. Beautiful morning, the water was smooth as glass when we left our cove, we were on a favorite fishing spot within a matter of mins. Helped bait her hook and showed her where to cast.........that's when things took a down turn. She got bored within a matter of mins, kept reeling her line in, getting tangled up, and then dropped her rod over the side. Took me another 15mins of dragging the bottom to retrieve the rod.

After that by mutual agreement we went for a ride up river, till the rising wind forced us to make a hasty retreat back to the dock, and Memorial Day weekend is a wrap for us.

Hey Hosers! As we enter the Memorial Day weekend in the USA, take a moment to remember those who put on the uniform and made the ultimate sacrifice. As one post I saw stated, Veterans Day is for those who wore the uniform and got to hang it up, Armed Forces Day is for those who are currently serving, and Memorial Day is for those who wore the uniform but never got to hang it up. Whether a service member or a first responder, we owe what we have to those who gave their lives in service to their country and community.

Good morning (still) hosers. Coffee on the deck. The Irish flag, today.

Interesting morning, we lost power suddenly just before 8 this morning. Waited around for a bit until I got a text that the FD was responding to my address. Went down to the road, the top of the first power pole on our property was on fire! Seems an insulator had cracked letting the line short out to a wet pole. Power company responded quickly, saving the pole and getting our power back on.

That's better than looking on the Ring app (in MD) and seeing an engine in front, with the running lights on (in ME).

Yeah, by the time i got down there, already had one truck & 2 members in my driveway. Got kidded about not being first on the scene. 🤪

Snooze, you lose!

Ah spring the south and the fire ants are swarming. Been in a daily battle with them for the past week. Treat one mound and two more pop up. They're in the reproductive winged state so the little sucker's can expand their territory rapidly.
