What's new

The Coffee House

Forgot to mention that last Friday 7-11-25 was my one year bought a house anniversary. Man, a whole year already!
Congrat's. We had just started looking at that point; maybe did the first house visit..

Well we had a costly day yesterday. Ms Phoebe jolted us wide awake just after 5am with that "unique" sound that a retching dog makes just before they upchuck in the middle of your bed. The only sound I know that canoeing you out of deep coma to wide awake and alert in a NY second. Over the course of the next 8 hrs she threw up 10 more times. We were going to try to wait it out till our vet opened this morning, but as she continued to not show much improvement, we decided to take her into the new emergency vet in town. Despite all her problems intestinal/gastric aren't on the list. Blood work normal, no temperature, couldn't really find anything. Gave her a shot to calm the stomach, some anti nausea meds and a nice little bill for $650. Nothing significantly wrong apparently which is good, and she slept through the night without incident.
I know that sound all too well! And you’re right nothing wakes you up out of a sound sleep faster than that noise. Glad to read that she is OK, she must’ve eaten something that didn’t agree with her. I feel like every two or three months Harlie eats something that she shouldn’t and has a little episode, usually on one of my new rugs.

It’s hot as **** here today. Very sunny, very hot, humidity is getting worse minute over a minute. Made a quick trip to the library to pick up some books and plan to stay indoors with the air conditioning on painting and reading. I have dinner plans tonight so at some point will have to venture outside but just from one air conditioned place to another. Princess’s grad party is on Saturday, this heat wave is supposed to end on Thursday. Friday rain and Saturday looking good. Keeping my fingers crossed that current weather forecast holds. I do not want 40 people in my house on Saturday.

Decided to make a little modification to my ballast box for the tractor the other day to make it easier to move the utility trailer around when needed. Quick and easy little project, I think I'm going to fill it full of concrete & mesh. I was going to add some PVC pipes so I can through in a rake or a shovel but I might just add them on the outside instead if I really need them. It's just gonna be handy when I need to move the trailer around and I have the ballest box on and I don't really wanna take it off, I can just throw in a hitch with the ball on it and off I go.

Arghhhhhh! Knocked my camera off the table. My 70-300 was attached and took the hit. Barrel separated from the mount. I don’t see any other damage. I reattached it but the camera is not reading the lens as attached. Camera is working fine with my other lenses. Off to Fujifilm repair the lens goes. Hopefully will have it back before my vacation next month.
That sucks! :( Here’s hoping it's the kind of repair that comes easily to them. Fingers crossed.

Heyho Campers! Another weekend come and gone. We learned this past week that our two little kittens are most likely lynx point shorthairs, a type of Siamese breed. Back in the late 40's early 50's a breeder crossed a Siamese with a Tabby and created a new breed. When full grown, these guys will keep their blue grey eyes and beige coat, but with Tabby pattern and dark tipped ears and tail. Atticus has made friends with our Cavvie Nixie, to the point that he crashed and was using her as a pillow to sleep on. Daisy on the other hand, just barks at them and makes them arch their backs and hiss back at her. Honey just looks at them and wags her tail, occasionally growling because Daisy is growling, and Honey is learning bad habits from Daisy. I think we'll have to introduce the kittens to Honey next, with Daisy outside or banished to the bedroom.
Naughty Daisy! Honey sounds like she's more interested in becoming friends.

It's always a circus with a house full of critters and they're still getting used to each other.

I hope they all settle down and decide to get along! Have fun and try not to get scratched or nipped during the process.

Congrats! You waited a long time, so these things should be noted and celebrated! 🥳

Thanks! I was letting Atticus play with my arm, not realizing how sharp those little teeth are. The next morning my arm looked like a had track marks down it. Since then, the play has been a little more regulated, but he like to play. Willow still keeps her distance for the most part, but has started playing as well. Because we enjoy misery, we volunteered to cat-sit my son's cat (the mama of the kittens) as well as the other two kittens, so we have a lot of cats to herd and keep separated from the pups, except for Nixie. Wish us luck. 😂

Sounds like the right kind of chaos to me! Good luck - and godspeed! :biglaugh:

Not photography related but still interesting. A senior citizen by the name of Robert Youens Log into Facebook is doing the Great Loop, alone in a 16' foot open Jon Boat, in attempt to break the speed record in 19 days. Here's the live GPS tracking on him if you'd like to follow along. Garmin Explore™ Considering the guys just slightly younger than me.....I'm in awe.

We went to the State Aquarium and the Coastal Botanical Gardens in Booth Bay this afternoon. The aquarium is small but it was fun. The blue lobster occurs about one in one million and the calico happens about one in 30 million.

We had the time and energy to get to two of the botanical garden trolls. We’ll go back to see the rest; it’s less than 90 minutes from the house.

Took Princess car shopping yesterday for her first car not bought by mom. I hate car shopping! She did her own research prior to and decided a certified pre owned Santa Fe Hyundai would suit her. We ended up at one of the dealerships that does the “hassle free” pricing. Supposedly the sales people don’t work on commission. The car is already discounted off msrp for new or KBB/Edmunds value for used. It does take some of the stress out of car buying. Talked them up a bit on the trade in and down a bit on the interest rate and we were done. She ended up with a 2022 with 20k miles on it. The remainder of the 10 yr/100,000k warranty is transferred which is reassuring. The car has all the bells and whistles- heated leather seats, Apple car play, safety sensors, panoramic sunroof, remote start… quite the upgrade from her 2011 Honda Pilot (aka The Tank).

And that was the last thing on my list of Things I Have To Do That I’m Dreading. Now back to my relaxing retired life…

@SquarePeg I always hated the dealership experience. You talk to a salesman who has no authority to negotiate price, running back and forth to the sales manger for approval/counter offers, what a hassle. Car dealers know its a stressful time for buyers and know how to counteract objections to manipulate buyers into a closing.

Back several years ago I started buying new, ordered from factory, with the specs I wanted. After building and specing my model online, I send a request for quote, including any brand finance offers, to the sales managers at the surrounding dealerships. They know it's a one shot chance on price so there's no haggling and there's no option for them to add high margin dealership add ons, making it easy to compare.. Once the deal is made another request for quote goes out to buy my vehicle. Most of the time the dealer that got the new car order ends up buying mine, but not always. It's all done via email, so the only in person contact is to sign paperwork, pick up new and/or drop off old.

Sounds like you both did great! It's good that she walked in knowing what she wanted, and it does sound like a terrific upgrade. In the North, heated seats aren't so much a bell/whistle thing as a necessity.

Congrats to Princess! May she drive safely for many years!

I got to test out the modification I made to my ballast box for moving trailers! Decided to make a video for fun. I haven't done since May so I wanted to do something.
