Received a late notice from this family but could not resist the chance to photograph this little angel. She is just turning one and as you can tell just full of personality! shot with D90 and Nikon 50mm, ISO 200. C&C always welcomed!

She's definitely going to be a heart-breaker in a few years... some thoughts: THe over-bright/blown background kills the image. The eye is naturally attracted to bright areas over dark, and tends to look right past the child's face. Using a fill flash off-camera, or perhaps even a reflector would have allowed you to really reduce the dynamic range and make her the centre of attention.

I find the crop a bit strange; I would suggest either portrait aspect for a bust shot, or perhaps square. Always watch for the little details like the hair; two seconds to brush the hair back would have made a world of difference!

In addition to the background issue already mentioned, I sense distortion (possibly due to closeness and the 50mm lens?).
