I have read so many reviewers of the nikon lenses to find which is which suit me. But most of the review use too much words to describe. Than in the end they always end it with But. The famous kenrockwell is no different.

Picture is worth thousand words - is the most accurate method the reviewers suppose to use. Describing the tools in words is too much waste of time and space in photography.

Here is the site that test the four well known nikon lenses. They are the 18-55, 18-70, 18-135 and the 18-200.
I like you to go straight into page 2, page 3, 4 and 5 to look at those pictures taken those 4 lenses without reading the explanation, and see what the diffences are. Once you have decided which picture is the best amoung the fours than you may read his opinions starting from the intro page.

You can do this method with every lens from any manufacturers. Happy scrutinizing.

I like to use Photozone.de for reviews.

Words are also tools. Without them I couldn't reply to your post.
