They started arriving months ago. But now they've had a chance to breed, the babies are old enough to leave the nest, and they busy fattening up for the migration south. So August and early September are the time to shoot them.
Here is some of my hummingbird work. The mature males will get very possessive of food sources so there are lots of fights (what you see in #3 and #6). Also note the Leucastic (not albino but more white and gray) hummingbird in #5.
