The window to my soul....D800 style

This took forever to get right. First, I was using the 60mm 2.8D which has trouble nailing focus. So, I set it to manual and just kept taking pictures until one looked right. I almost pulled out my D5100 to use the articulated screen but needed the D800's resolution.

I hope that 'window to the soul' thing isn't true, because I don't see anything in there...

I've always wondered how these eye detail shots are done. First you need pretty good lighting, and with bright light source, it's hard for the eye to stay open, let alone still.
Then you need small aperture to get a decent depth of field.
Then when you are trying to shoot an animal's eye, like a dog or cat... it's impossible.

Eye photos do intrigue me (obviously lol) I have never taken time to take a decent one with my canon...mine is from my cell..will have to give it a shot

Nice shot.. need to brighten it a bit though... looks underexposed! I have been meaning to try this with the D800, but haven't yet. Is that an R1C1 kit for the flashes?

Critters are easy if you have patience... This is a macro composite of my cats eye. Each half is a full size D800 exposure at 36mp. The total image is HUGE! My Cat the Owl | Flickr - Photo Sharing!.

Oh yeah, and your eye looks good..I think it just needs a bit more fill light
