Yah, me too.
But I want people not to be aware of the shape of the picture so I try to keep pictures close to the shape that people are used to seeing so they can be unaware.

Fair enough. What would you expect that shape to be? 5x7 kinda ratio?

ya , most and most images are displayed in that aspect as well, not that another 'standard' aspect isn't ok. There's a real famous wedding shooter who shoots in bizarre aspects, sells the frames to match...last I heard he was making 2 million a year with his weddings and 5 million in frame sales but I think he's rather unusual.
