Thinking about selling my 24-105mm to purchase other lens

The 24-105mm F4L Canon is like brand new. I've only used it once.
1. How much could I sell it for?
2. What should I get with the money that I've sold it for?
3. Where to sell it?

Or should I even sell it at all? It's an okay lens. The weight isn't a pain, but the IQ isn't superb. I almost never use 105mm anyways.

Check ebay for completed listings and also retailers for what they sell second hand goods for. That will give you an idea of the second hand price of the lens. However if you've only used it once won't it still be within the return period for the shop that you bought it from?

Ebay - the buy and sell sections on the forum or you can sell direct to some photography shops (note you'll get less if you sell to a shop since they need to profit from the sale when they sell it themselves so they'll pay less than the market rate - but you will get a fast easy sale).



It sounds that you've got buyers remorse - only one use and you can hardly have given the lens much of a chance to perform. I would advise a longer period of using it and getting used to its operation to get used to it. You might find after a while you grow to like the lens a lot more.

I guess that would make sense, to take more photos with it. I have until Oct 3 to return it to amazon. Apparently, you don't need the original box... But it was a white box anyways, so it should be fine. 99% sure.
I'm thinking about getting a some primes and zooms. Or just a 24-70mm. I did get the 24-105mm brand new for only 850$ from the usual 1100 CAD~.
Suggestions?

The 24-70 is very unlikely to have significantlyhigher IQ than the 24-105. You're paying primarily for a stop wider aperture, and the design and construction should be about the same. In fact, when used at 2.8 it is likely to have slightly lower IQ (still extremely high).

Primes might be a little better. But honestly, once you get into the realm of short range, standard focal lengths zoom L lenses, the difference between those and primes is not going to be terribly noticeable. The reason for paying for primes at that level has more to do with, again, getting larger max apertures, more so than higher IQ.

I strongly suspect that the IQ problems you are encountering are either due to technique, or a faulty lens copy that should simply be exchanged. Sample images and more info are needed.
