Hey im thinking of selling my 17-85mm since its way too slow for me and instead i want to get a 30mm or 500mm prime. Just wondering if they have a prime lower then 30? I have a 85mm prime which i use for portraits (its also my favorite lens) so i kinda wanted something wider that isnt so slow.
Any suggestions?

What are you going to use the new lens for? Also, expect to shell out some serious moolah for wide angle lenses. Even a used model will run you a decent amount of money. A while back I bought a new Sigma 20mm prime for around 350.00. The Canon 20 mm (used) would have cost me around 600.

Mainly for landscape shots of beaches. I would like to see some of the photos you've taken with the sigma :)

At the moment im using the 17-85mm for landscape but im not satisfied with the results but then again im shooting without a tripod :(

It's worth considering the 17-55 f2.8. Awesome sharp lens, fast, image stabilizer. Would probably cost the same as two or three primes and be more convenient, plus it covers all the angles from wide to normal.

Yeah that lens does look awesome... Although i am more of a prime lens person i think this could be the exception but i shouldnt let my 17-85mm ruin it for other zooms. Ive added this to my wishlist so hopefully get it by March!

Im still open to opinions though my budget at the moment is $600

I have a Sigma 24mm 1.8 and its considered to be their best prime under 50mm (maybe even better.

Its got a lot better IQ than 20mm and the 28mm alternatives, definitely better for landscapes than the 30mm f 1.4

The focusing distance of that lens is so amazing, I can shoot macro with it and its a wide-angle!

I was skeptical about shelling out 400 bucks for a sigma, because canon or whatever are "supposed" to be better. Not in this case though.

Im sold.
Will definitely look into that lens.
Thank you.

please update this thread when you get some info on that 24mm sigma. I just wanna know if another person doing their research like I did will come to the same conclusion or maybe you'll find something else. I am interested in any case.

Here is my old thread before I made my purchaise
