Those of you with "Smart Phones" ......

What do you use them for besides phone calls ?? I have a reg cell phone - it makes phone calls to anywhere I want to call - even has voice mail and a 'tip calculator' !! What am I missing by not having a 3G or 4G Cell (Besides an extra $15-30/month for an internet plan).. What "Apps" do you use on a regular basis to make them worthwhile having? I had a Blackberry for a week before returning it .... screen too small to see a webpage!

I like check my emails, check out TPF when im on public transportation, play games etc. You can also have apps that will help your business. For example square up, zenfolio app, etc. You can charge credit card with your phone with square up. You can view your photos on your zenfolio real fast (instead of using the website). I cant live without it haha.

Star walk (point phone at sky and it shows the constellations and where to find stuff)

There may be more, but I don't have my phone at me, and I'm not bothered to go up the stairs and get it, so I can't check my apps.

Email, banking, apps for putting it up to the radio so you can find out who is singing the song lol. Model release app on iphone, web surfing, and of course as a phone.

I use mine for GPS navigation when walking around. Maps. Finding food. Finding anything you need around you. Notes. Doodles. Internets. Games. Banking. Weather. Music, mine or streaming, walking or driving. IRC Chat. Netflix. Books. Recieving plastic payments via Square. Texting, email, phone, and camera.

I couldn't go back to a standard phone. Never thought that I would say that but the iPhone or one of the large screen smart phones is great. There is even a TPF app.

Just to note. These are not phones in my opinion, they are a computer that has a phone attached.

I still had a an old flip phone, one I'd used for about 10 years, much to my computer-geek son's dismay. He finally talked me into upgrading--I tried a Blackberry, but like you, I just didn't much get the point. He finally got me to switch to a smart phone in March; I got a Samsung Galaxy Droid, and I am Addicted! I had NO idea I would use it so much. I was afraid it would just feed my FB addiction, but I rarely use it for that.
The apps I use the most:
Amazon Appstore--has a deal of the day where you can pick up some decent apps that usually cost money for free.
500px Land--an app to browse the photos on 500px.com
Kindle app--where I've downloaded several of my camera reference books, so I have them "on the fly"
YouVersion Bible App
Calendar--I use both a Google Calendar and one called Business Calendar
Camera apps-- Camera Fun Pro, Camera360, PaperCamera, FXCamera, Little Photo, Photoshop Express
CamScanner--allows me to scan receipts, papers, etc instead of stuffing them into the black hole I call my purse
Google Docs app
Dropbox
Evernote--allows me to sort notes, drawings, and pictures all related to different projects and keep them together
Flashlight app...seriously, I use it all the time, lol
Google Goggles
Layar--my son downloaded this (and most of my apps!) and I thought I'd never use it, but it's awesome
Mobile Metronome
Musical Pro--I am taking music lessons from our choir director and this and the metronome are invaluable to me
My Fitness Pal--keeps track of my exercise, my diet, everything
ESPN Scorecenter
Shortyz--Crossword Puzzles
SoundHound--LOVE this!!
Stopwatch/Timer app
Sundroid--tells you when sunset, sunrise and all the "stages" of them will be that day (civil, nautical and astronomical)

Believe it or not, there's actually some I use a good bit that I left out! These are ones I use at least once a week. I did leave out ONE I use way more often than I should, but I'll just admit...I am addicted to Angry Birds. It is the dumbest game ever, and I can't stop playing it...

Are people still trying to argue why "Smart Phones" are unnecessary? I used to talk crap to my best friend when he got the first iPhone...Saying things like, "So you paid X amount of money for the phone and X amount per month for data....Just so you can check your Facebook on your phone?".. My mindset has completely changed and I greatly enjoy my Droid 3. If you don't have a "smart phone"..then I would highly suggest purchasing one and step into the 21st century

Oh and forget Blackberry's....It's an Android/iPhone/Windows market now!!

GPS/Maps, online banking, surfing forums, shopping comparisons(by scanning the barcodes), pulling up reviews for restaurants in the area, a few games, Outlook E-mail and instant messaging, flashlight, camera, ESPN scores, News, advanced calculators/unit converters, alarms, synced calander with my outlook, weather updates, netflix, radio, and I think that's pretty much it.

For me, I'm required to have the Outlook E-mail and Calander for work. Everything else is just nice to have, although you would be surprised how often the flashlight app comes in handy.

Like others have mentioned, I resisting getting one for the longest time. Now that I have one I can't see NOT having one.

Next one will be Android based.
