thoughts? very different for me.

They could very well be a little soft, the second more so than the first though. It was my first time out with the 70-200.. handheld and with like 13 mph winds + lol we were having a heck of a time with the wind. And I'm a little weakling apparently.. that thing is so freakin heavy! I pretty much DIE the following day every time I've shot with it so far. haha

fwiw, my focus point is always on the eyes.. or that's where I aim anyway. with the winds, there's no telling where it might have actually ended up. lol

Yeah, you missed focus a little bit. What was your aperture?

And yeah, I TOTALLY know what you mean about the 70-200, haha. The first like... half a year I shot weddings with it, I'd end up in a wrist brace the next day. It's super heavy. I shoot with it all the time, but I'm still not used to how heavy it is, haha.

I have weak wrists apparently. :lol:

I had my shutter speed up higher than I'd normally shoot her because she is SUPER patient and can actually stay still for me.. lol but the wind man.. the wind was so bad I really probably needed my shutter speed at more like 400+ to compensate. I was also a little weary on how high of an ISO I could get away with being the first time out and we lost light very quickly that night.

I honestly don't mind the softness, if the focus were actually on her eyes. It's got kind of a Sue Bryce-esque feel to it... however the focus is in front of her face (like I said the bracelet is sharp). If the focus was on her eyes and there was just a hair of softness from motion blur or whatever, it wouldn't really bother me. But that's not what's happening here... it's just that the focus isn't where it should be.

It may have been from trying to recompose at f/2.8, which is super hard (I have spent the last few months hating myself due to missing focus because of that, so don't think I'm trying to say I'm perfect or anything, haha), or it *could* have been that the wind knocked you back a hair, just enough to pull focus forward. Whatever it is, it caused you to miss focus.

It's a beautiful image, I just wish it were her eyes that were in focus.

maybe i need to go blur down her bracelet lol the focus wasnt far gone enough to warrant scrapping by any means.. we had a lot of oof images from the evening so everything else about this photo made it a winner for me.

I think she's one of the most beautiful women I've seen in years. The camera just LOVES her features! Yeah, the f/2.8 DOF is slightly misplaced...that happens more often that any of us would like. The hair blowing in the wind totally MAKES the shot ! Here is my first crop try, going for a taut (hence the tight amount of head space I left), yet balanced, haunting look. I did not try any other crops, didn't do much except minor mods: sharpened it up a bit and went for the soft, desaturated looks that I thought looks good on this image, very subtle vignetting, a little bit of burning down the back of that one hand.

Above is a bleach bypass look. My first rework, like a one minute type of deal.

This is a split-toned look, sort of an antique cream tone effect. It's set for printing, in terms of the curves.

A classic sepia tone look made after messing around with the file pretty severely and using a green filter to get some tones differentiated; sepia conversion overlayed over at the end.

I really love this portrait! I think it's just really,really nice. I love that wisp of hair that hits the mouth and lips area! Fabulous!

I think it's outstanding, really.

The second one looks poorly photoshopped. I would stick with the amount and style of editing you did in the one I quoted. I think it's really well done and really works, The second one doesnt even look like it was shot and processed by the same person as the first shot (which I'll say again, is stunning).

Thanks all. Really like that sepia toned rework Derrel. I never even think to play with those tones but I think it looks really damn good for this image. Maybe I'll give another similar from this shoot a go.

For me, I like the mason jar a lot more. Don't like the original photo - either version - at all. The photo seems out of focus and the clothing/pose combination are not flattering.
