The ice-off clock. (something else to bet on) The ice melts, the weight goes down, the flag is raised and the batteries are pulled out of the clock (in the bucket). Thus, the exact time is known and the winner gets his prize. This is as close as I wanted to get the ice really sucks to walk on.
