Hi there,

I am trying to photograph a building which is in a relatively narrow street. After sunrise the light on the building is even, with the sun behind it. At midday to about 5 the building is fully illuminated but with strong shadows; and then when the light improves toward the end of the day the building is gradually back in the shade with the sun in front of it (blocked by the buildings opposite).

I am confused as to which time is best to shoot (I am filming with some very cumbersome equipment!). Logically early morning and late afternoon would be best but I am concerned that shooting the building when it is in the shade (this is the only time the lighting is even) will produce poor results.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you don't get the light you want naturally then take the picture in either all bright or all shaded, preferably for me would be all shaded with a low ISO and a good tripod. Then post process.
