"Time" Project

As part of my College course, we have to do a Project using only Digital (it's mainly all on Film) and ive choosen Time as mine. I have a few idea's, like Star trails like i did last night,which didnt turn out too bright.
I know its my project,but im curious if anyone has any idea's,Inspiration or motivation to get me started. So far i've shot 1 image in a series of 8. and it's a Guy sitting on a bench shot with a slow shutter speed in a busy street.and its not too bad,but it's worth some improvement.

i had another idea of shooting without using a Slow shutter speed,like shooting time in Av,any idea's? and another of getting old pictures of Glasgow street's from the 40's/50's and taking them now in a modern style and having them side by side.
