Hi all,

I've been doing a bit of research of cameras in the "lower price range" (255USD/160GBP). I live in Thailand and have been looking at a few different cameras in that price range as a birthday gift for my lil sister I'd really appreciate any suggestions you might have. She'll just be using it for general photography, nothing too serious.

I looked at the Olympus VH510 and a few Canon's. I liked the Canon IXUS 255 HS. It's warranty is limited to Thailand, but is an international warranty absolutely essential? They're only valid for a year and if something were to happen to the camera, couldn't she just post it back to me from England to Thailand? The Olympus is the only one with the worldwide warranty.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on good cameras in this price range. I'd actually like to get a bit clued up on the technical basics myself, so think I'll stick around on these forums to learn a few tricks

The IXUS 255 has wi-fi and a few other handy features the others don't seem to have.

I'm guessing those are P/S cameras. I'll be interested to see what feedback you get (if any). Where this is a forum of enthusiasts, almost everyone here has DSLRs, and those that don't tend to have higher-end point and shoot devices. What's more is the number and types of cameras in the range you are talking about vary massively and change very rapidly, so it's hard for people to keep up.

for a point and shoot, I like my samsung WB150F.
for your price range of $250 USD, you can get a model or two up from the WB150, like the wb250 or wb800.
they all come with built in wifi, and are great little cameras.

Thanks guys, I'll go out to the Thai shopping malls and have a look : ) They're very into their art and photography here .. but I guess most Asians are ..
