I've been hunting for the right IQZoom or Espio 928 for a while - good condition at the right price (aka the cheapest working one) - and I finally landed one from a Japanese eBay seller. It was a shockingly good deal compared to what US sellers ask for IQZoom-badged copies.
What drew me in was the lens: 28–90mm f/3.5–7.9. Most Espios only go as wide as 35mm, so having a true 28mm in a compact body is exactly what I was after. The zoom motor is surprisingly quick for a mid-90s compact, AF locks in reliably, and the flash fires consistently.
I've always had a soft spot for the IQZoom/Espio line. They're slept on and underrated, but they deliver great images. To me, they're the anti-mju: bulkier, not as pretty, but with better image quality in my opinion. And as a toddler dad, the size is perfect: easy to toss in the same bag that's already packed with diapers and snacks, or ride in the stroller's parent tray between wipes and everything else.
Cosmetically, it's in solid shape. After dropping in a fresh battery and running a test roll, everything seems to be working as it should. If the results look good when I get the roll back tomorrow, it's coming with me this Saturday to one of the local theme parks for a proper workout.
