Tokina 12-24 vs Sigma 10-20

Can anyone share their views on these lenses? I'm interested in landscape photography and need wide-angle lens for my D3100. Also, I'd appreciate any feedback as to whether the extra money for the Tokina 11-16 is worth it.

To be honest with you, whether the extra money worth it or not is quite personal. I choose the Sigma myself because I do not think the Tokina one worth the extra.

And I told my wife her handbag do not worth $9xx. A $60 one works the same but she strongly disagree.

Have the Sigma 10-20 and for the amount I use it gets the job done quite nicely.

If I was concerned with Night shooting and indoors,etc. then would opt for the Tokina 11-16 f2.8.
Tho in bottom shot that was handheld like 1/20th of a second I believe.

But the Tokina 12-24 would pass in lieu of the Sigma 10-20. As 2mm difference is significant in ultra-wide and noticeable in wider view.

And was a tad confused as title suggests 12-24 but you are asking about the 11-16?

Hi, I've never tried the Tokina but own the Sigma 10-20 for my D90 and it's always been sharp. You will get some barrel distortion, but lens correction in photoshop corrects this pretty well.

I found the Tokina to be excellent indoors when very wide angle shot is required. I use one on my Canon 7D. Here's a few samples:

It's the sort of lens that you may not use often, especially if you already have an excellent zoom like the Sigma 18-250mm macro. However when you need it to get a shot then you really, really need it.

I've owned and used both extensively. I think I had the Tokina in 2008 and the Sigma in 2010, both on a D80. Tokina is sharp but has severe chromatic aberration, which is easily correctable nowadays. The Sigma is a little wider, as sharp or sharper and has much less CA. The big issue for me with the Sigma was mustache distortion, which is uncorrectable. I used it for an architectural photography internship, and it got me surprisingly far, but that distortion always erk'd me.
