Hey everyone im new to this forum but im hoping hang around so i can learn some things. add me and check my out my posts. I take a lots of pictures but never any rolling, or of cars. So to start the new year off right i went out with some buddies and took pics of his silver subaru. My setup was a d200 with a kit lens gripped. Since it was my first time I didnt hang half my body out. I was already nervous going 60+ mph facing the opposite direction. In all I have around 200+ solid photos. If i could get some assistance, in the form of critique, advice, input, or whatever. Im hear to learn. I want to get better. Im the only one in my family who takes pictures but i would find it very beneficial if i could have and art director help me out.

Besides acouple of them seeming alittle dark, they're pretty decent shots. Btw that is one clean sti man! love that car

wow! ill say!! nice car man. what camera and lens?

Cool shots, might want a slower shutter or better angle. Some of the ones from the front freeze him in the middle of the road as if he were stopped.

Most rolling shots are done at walking speed, not 60 mph.

You were shooting the wrong side of the car. You will get much better shots of the car, by having the Sun somewhere behind the camera.

Use a CPL filter.

Pics Look good. I like them alot.

Nice STI.

Shots look clean and vivid.

Like this site for Rolling Shots with Rigs.

Automotive Rigs

Maybe give you some ideas.

Those shots look amazing. How have you edited number three i want to try and get that kind of effect on cars.

Rollers are when a person photographs from a chase car, usually done at about those speeds.

OK, I give. What's the point of a "rolling shot"? Is it the technical challenge of taking a shot of something moving while you, yourself are moving, or is it something else? Do you want to freeze the image or are you trying to emphasize speed? If you're trying to emphasize speed, then there are only two of the shots that actually do that. The rest are static (ie, something that could have been done if the subject wasn't moving and you weren't either).

Yes.

Its actually kinda hard to take pictures of a car moving while moving. Ill post data about the photos. In a sec but I was either at 1/60 or faster. Which two photographs are you referring to? I have some more ill post today. But if anything I could run a motion blur filter. Just not on the freeze front shots.

I have no secrets lol. Try this new layer fill it with black then change blending option to hue and opacity to 40%. The flatten change image mode to lab color and run unsharp mask with theses number 50,50,0. Change back to rgb. U may need to run levels and curves.

Just my opinion, but I feel the background in some of the shots is distracting. I see hills and mountains in the background, and think if you drove up to the mountains you could get shots free of the busy traffic and such, unless thats what you're going for in the shots.

your shutter is too fast. Nice car though. It should look like this panning shot I did. Technically rolling shot is a lot easier, but it will involve more people and 2 cars.

Yea the lowest I went was 1/60. And I think that time we were going exactly the same speed.
