You can't get a decent picture with point and shoot? Even a £3000 EOS 1D Mk.III has an automatic mode, must be there for a reason.

As for the photo, it could use a little levels tweak I think. The composition is good, just needs a bit of a boost. I noticed you're photos are not ok to edit tag so I won't show you what I mean, but basically I would adjust the levels a bit and give it a SMALL contrast and saturation boost.
Nice composition though and considering the speeds, a nice capture.
