Tornado Alley today in Illinois!

There were tornadoes left and right today all around my home today. The closest one touched down about 15-20 miles away. It was a crazy weather day. Very intense. My house and my detached building/studio survived. Lots of trees down, and massive destruction elsewhere. Of course I had my camera out while the sirens were going off! Really crazy clouds, but I don't think I saw any rotations. The wind was insane. The clouds behind my house looked really cool.

Glad you're safe. It was nighttime before that stuff blew through around here -- sirens & all, but nothing nearly as nasty as earlier in the day.

I believe that it is not easy to live with such violent weather events..your photos make it perfectly the idea of the tension and expectation in the air

Glad you're okay! Some incredible cloud cover there.
Ever since April 2011 when a tornado ripped through about a mile from me (and busted out all my storm windows and some other reasonably minor damage), I've developed quite a "tic" about storms like that. Most likely, I would NOT have been out taking pictures of the clouds; I'd have been inside under the covers, mumbling something like "I want my Mommmmmmmmy!...." :lmao:

Nasty looking sky.

It blew in here overnight with wind gusts to 90km. Just shot this through the living-room window. Notice the lean on the trees.

Glad you got missed... How far are you from the IL border? Heard tales of some serious winds from the Lake County area, but no tornadoes there that I'm aware of.

...kind of strange to post this under the "Just For Fun" heading,though i realize your not looking for c/c. jus' sayin'

...actually its kind of strange that there isn't another tab,for this sort of stuff.I don't think your making light of it,and i'm glad you're fine,just seems a strange tab to have to place it under..:scratch::scratch::scratch:

That storm was intense for sure. I'm glad you guys made it.

I've come within a 1/4 mile of an F3 Tornado and thank my Lucky Stars every day that it missed us.

I am a couple hours from the border. There were tornadoes all over IL.

Glad you're OK, awful destruction in some places. By the time it got this far it was getting dark and the storm was breaking up, came thru not too far from me (got eerily still) but at least went thru fast. Glad you posted so we know it missed you.
