Trading the 17-85 IS with the Tamron 28-75 2.8

Would you trade the:

CANON 17-85 IS f/4.0-5.6

for the

TAMRON 28-75 f/2.8?

I can buy the Tamron for 300ish. I can probably sell my 17-85 for about the same. I do more sports than portraits.

The wide aperture would be better for sports...but you would be loosing out on the 17-27mm range...which I wouldn't want to be without.

I have noticed that the sharpness on my lens isn't perfect. I'd also like a faster lens. Then, I came across this website which compares all these lenses and their reviews. Apparently the Tamron kicks canon's butt in this comparison.

On the other hand, I've been using my 17-85 with good results doing this basketball tournament. Even on my 70-200 f/2.8... I'm booking it up to f/5.6 or so and using a flash, to get a larger DOF...so why am I wanting a 2.8?
