Downtown and near-Downtown Detroit are being heralded as a true Renaissance, with literally hundreds of millions being spent on sports stadia, arenas, restaurants, apartment districts, etc. A mile, or so, out of the area, the neighborhoods still look like war zones, with abandoned, collapsed houses, abandoned cars, and dead vegetation.

This tree bark is from a long-dead tree on an empty lot. The colors were so drab, that the image was better served converted to black and white in Photoshop 15.

I know that is accurate. Downtown is really looking much better but my big sister lives on the Eastern front.

The caption info helps me understand this shot at a different level. Thanks for posting this. Is that a tiny bit of snow in the hollowed out part?

Yes. The previous night left a thin blanket, and the flakes looked more like ice melt, than flakes.
