I too like tree roots and this is not a bad shot. You've captured the texture and some roots in an interesting position. Two things bother me - the bright twigs in the lower right and the fact that I can't see a little more of the root at the top. I would at least crop the right just past the twig and if you can go back, include some more on top, maybe even make it a vertical. Of course it there's something distracting up there it won't be an option.

KenC thanks for the critique. I took several shots of this part of the tree because I liked how the light was falling on it. As you suggested, I took some vertical shots, but I decided to not convert those to black and white because I liked the green moss growing on the trunk.
