Tree is not distinct enough. Needs to jump out some way from the background.

Was this shot about the tree or the carvings on it? For me this image really doesn't work for the tree, or for its many carvings. The tree, while prominent in the photo, just isn't interesting enough on its own to work in this tight of a crop, it may have stood out more with more landscape. The carvings on the tree have the most potential here in my opinion, but the overall composition doesn't make them stand out as the primary feature. Perhaps zoom in a bit on the carvings and crop tighter to exclude the little bit of landscape in the background.
