Trees sharpened or original?

I sharpened the image using an Photoshop image layer merging technique that does not introduce noise like normal sharpening does.

This is the first time i have used the TPF file upload posting, i normally use photobucket so i might have to edit this post a bit to get it right.

There appear to be some white halos in the sharpened version which I find a little distracting. Overall I prefer the original.

Out of interest what method did you use?

As for the results I'd say drop the contrast on the sharpened version a touch - yeah that will impact the sharpness some, but I feel that the unsharpened version has a nicer display of details and colours in general (detail is sort of being lost in some of the key shadowed areas because of the contrast boost in the sharpened version)

KenC i cannot see any halos, maybe i am missing them, i have zoomed in on the originals on my notebook and it looks ok, it might be a little too sharp and i could reduce that a bit, could you point out the Halo`s

I see very fine white lines surrounding the branches. I had to get very close to the image to see them, but I came in close because something bothered me about the way it looked at a normal viewing distance. It's possible this is an artifact of resizing, if you did that, or it's just more apparent on some monitors.

Hi.

My camera is only 14mp and the photo i posted is full resolution, I had to zoom right in to see what you mean by haloing, but at this zoom level i can see the pixels as well, nobody looks a photo`s like this, I loaded the sharpened image back into Photoshop and viewed it at 100% and i cannot see any haloing at that magnification.

I didn't notice haloing either. I agree however about the level of contrast the sharpening method had.

I like the original for its softness; the sharpened version comes off a bit strong or harsh. I think it comes down to what mood you are trying to portray.

I am viewing this through my phone , so I can't really speak on color accuracy and stuff like that. However, the original looks better to me.

I use the high pass filter all the time. However, I use the soft light blending mode.
