Tried my Hand at Astrophotography..And I'm Quite Pleased! C&C!

Nothing much to pick on the technical side, just that the composition can be better. The crane arm in the middle has become more of a distraction.

Also, I found that when I want to do still shots of stars, shooting the milky way is great because the star formation makes the photo interesting. However, if I want star trails, I typically want to shoot away from the milky way, because the result from milky way star trails will have uneven intensity, which can be a bit messy to look at.

I agree. My subject was nice... but not ideal. Tonight was more about getting all the technical stuff down, and next time I can focus more on composition and such. Thanks for your help!

so, what are the specs on these? For stacking, which I have never done, can it be done in PSE11? How many photos were stacked, and is this using Polaris for the circular motion?

These were shot at f2.8, 30seconds, and Iso1600. They were shot at 17mm on my 17-50 2.8 These were stacked using an application called photostax. The stacked image is comprised of 45 30 second exposures.

These were shot in downeast maine.

The photos are enjoyable to look at, for astronomy ones. For the composition gurus they have their limitations.
but I find myself just staring through a telescope alot, and pictures to remind me of what I was looking at I think are awesome .. so at that level the pictures are good.


but next time get that crane out of the picture.
