Tripod tricks

About 10 years ago or so, I had posted a question to folks about tripods and their use.
At first I got some really wierd "???" from people, until I posted an example and voila, discussion.

i wanted to start a new thread on this subject and ask, people what they have done tripod wise to achieve certain results, and some of the tripod tricks you can use.

This is the pis of the acequia.

Not the best pic, but the 1/15th of a second created the effect I was looking for.

This is how I set the tripod up to do the shot:

The tripod is a Smith Victor we got from Goodwill for $7.00.

The boom I picked up years ago on clearance, and the camera is a 70d with the 35-350 on it.

Hmm.

I'd never use my DSLR with a $7 tripod.

And yes sure with a tripod one can do all sorts of tricks:

- long time exposure
- multi exposure, like for high dynamic range (HDR) photography
- focus stacking
- leveled panoramic series

I've used rocks, walls, hay bales, and occasionally, a tripod to support my DSLR for longer exposures or for low light conditions. I've also used $10 lenses that gave good results.

As Solarflare mentioned, you can do a lot with a tripod. My best trick with a tripod is getting someone else to carry it!

As I have said in another post I am limited in what I take on holiday. Makes me get creative
