Trying to get back in the "swing" of things with golf

Been a while since I've played and even longer since I played regularly. Thinking about picking up some clubs so I can mess around a little at the local course. Issue is I'm 6'2" and most "out of the box" clubs really are too short for me. Anyone have any suggestions for a cheap starter set?

I just bought a set off ebay. You can find a lot of new or barely used sets that are a fit for your body and swing. My advise is to go to a golf store and get fit for driver, irons, and yes, even putter. There are specs for loft, lie angle, shaft length and flex, grip size, etc. You'd be surprised how much of a difference clubs that fit you can make. It is worth the money. Don't settle for clubs that don't fit you...un-fit clubs is probably why most amateurs hit errant shots!
Then use the specs from the fitting and camp out on ebay. Eventually you'll come across the right buy!

Golf of is my real hobby! Photography is my fun side hobby. I usually have a hard time buying a lens when I could buy a new set of clubs with that money.

Agreed with PropilotBW. Getting properly fit for clubs will make a lot of difference. Most off the rack clubs are built for people under 6'.

Yup I didn't know what kind of difference that would make until I used a friend's (exact height as me..) set. It was a night and day difference and my back felt fine at the end of the day.

I've been golfing for over 40 years. I got a new set last year from Dicks Sporting Goods. If you have one in your area you should check them out. They have some good deals and they do some custom fitting.

I played Congressional Country Club's Blue course yesterday and it was in it's US Open configuration (par 71).

I shot a 7 under par - 64- from the Black tees.

But I was in Iowa and online when I played - www.wgt.com :mrgreen:

I almost forgot to mention the most important part...hit the clubs before you buy them. Don't buy anything you haven't hit!
See if there is a demo-day at a local golf course. All the major manufacturers will be out there to let you demo everything they have.
