Its been awhile since I last posted on here. Figured I would share. Thinking of getting a new birding lens so have been on here reading a bunch. Really think my Nikon 55-300mm is pretty crap.

Gambles Quail taken with my Tokina 100mm macro set-up on the tri-pod and pointed at the rock. Hid and waited for him. Used the remote to trigger.

Really like #2, nice color and detail. 4 and 5 are real nice too

Can't wait for the hummingbirds to get back up here. It snowed today :meh:

Tucson has an amazing variety of bird species. (I lived in Tucson until 2005)

Note that Tucson is close to one of the premier bird watching locations in the US (rated 3rd best) - Madera Canyon - in the northwest face of the Santa Rita mountains just 25 miles from Tucson.
Madera Canyon is a resting place for migrating birds which adds to it's reputation.

Madera Canyon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. . . fifteen species of hummingbirds, elegant trogon, sulphur-bellied flycatcher, black-capped gnatcatcher, flame-colored tanager, thirty-six species of wood warblers, and over 256 species of birds documented in total, Madera Canyon is rated the third best birding destination in the United States. Other animals that can be found in Madera Canyon include black bear, mountain lion, bobcats, white-tailed and mule deer, foxes, coatis, ring-tailed cats, raccoons, wild turkeys, squirrels, and rabbits. Sixteen species of bats have also been recorded in the canyon. . .

In my childhood i had a wish to be a wildlife photographer. i always wanted to be so closer of nature and wildlife.Still i want to take some closest photograph of animals.

You folks and your Humming birds, man I want to see those little birds. They are just downright GORGEOUS. Hopefully one day I might get a crack at them.

Nice shots and another fan of that second shot. Beautiful colours. The 1st shot is also excellent and great timing. Nice work on the other shots and good details. Love the colours in all these and the Quail looks so proud.

All the best.

Danny.

Love all of these, except #3--that ones looks oversaturated to me and if that's a Great Egret, it's a *little* on the cool side. :D If it's a heron that is really that blue, I'm definitely planning a trip out your way, because I'd like to see THAT.

The others are just lovely though...and that quail, shot REMOTELY with the Tokina 100mm macro? That's just astounding. I've never tried using my Tokina for bird photography--now I'm tempted to try it, but I'd probably sit there ALL day long and that bird would NEVER step up on that rock.

Yeah its a great Egret thats suppose to be whiter. He wouldn't walk into the light but the golds from the grass is unsaturated. It was pretty spectacular I juts couldn't get the bird any better.

A quick and dirty edit using a variety of Photoshop's selection tools, saving the selections for use on several Hue/Saturation Adjustment layers, and the Dodge tool. In the Hue/Saturation layers I completely de-saturated the bird/reflection and added some Lightness (+10 on the bird, +20 on the reflection). I also used the saved selections to limit the dodging to only the bird and the reflection.:

I was scratching my head for the longest time thinking that's a great Egret and what kind of person would paint the poor fellow. Humming Birds are lovely.

How about this one? Did this in less than 5 minutes.. The legs can still use some work, higher resolution would have helped!
