Well I picked up a $1 Tulip at a local grocery store a few days ago to mess around with and enjoy as it slowly opened up to the morning sunlight. Sick and stuck in for the evening, I decided to expand the bloom's horizons a bit.
Here were the results, #1 is by far my favorite of the two. IMO it forces the viewer to look for a moment at why it's called "Tulip". Then once you pick up on the stem, the flames really keep the shape, even up to their own soft "blossom" at the top.
#2 is exactly what I set out for conceptually from the start. So I'm content with it in that way.
