Two California Poppies

I recently aquired a +3 close up filter. These are 2 shots taken with my K100d and the 18-55mm kit lens fitted with the +3 close up filter. Both pictures were shot at f/8, but the lower shot seems to be too soft. I would appreciate comments on the 2 pics.

Well, IMHO, both shots look sharp. Although I think I know what you mean ...the right side of the poppy is sharper than the left side (in both shots, now that I look back). The colours are gorgeous, as is the dof.
