The first is a nice capture, I'd just like to see a little more contrast (could be my personal preference though)
The second really isn't doing anything for me, kinda flat and it's just a door. Not a lot of substance IMO

I agree the first is more interesting, and also about the contrast. One of mine got the same comment re contrast and it seems to have lost some in the process of converting to jpg and posting, so maybe that's what happened here. My preference would have been to include more of the stairs and only part of the sign, but that's probably just my preference, and not what most would prefer.
