Evening All,

I had a lovely trip to the birthplace of William Shakespeare today, Stratford-Upon-Avon. Managed to get two HDR images that I actually quite like :D

1) The River Avon

2) The Royal Shakespeare Theatre

What was the total dynamic range of each of the 2 scenes?

To me they look over tone mappped and the dark bits are quite a bit muddier than I would expect from an HDR.

it looks like you didn't capture enough exposures below the zero indicator of the in-camera exposure meter.

What metering mode did you use to survey the scenes to determine the total range of exposure?

Unfortunately my camera only allows -1,0,+1 that's as much control as I have. I did go to town with playing with settings on the tone mapping but I must say I am reasonably happy with them, not that I'm qualified to decide as these were my 2nd and 3rd attempts  Thanks KmH

While the camera does only allow -1 0 +1 you can manually set -4 -3 -2 then -1 0 +1 then +2 +3 +4 for a nine shot exposure.

Yes that is true John. The reason I didn't do that is because I was standing in a big crowd of people crossing a bridge, so was already holding up traffic! Also just holding the camera free hand I would have never been able to get it back to the same position every time after changing settings, using the Auto Exposure Bracketing shoots a quick 3 shots which helped with both of these problems :-D Will definitely find a nice quiet landscape and try a 9 shot HDR though John, thanks.
