Two photographs of Norway

The following two photographs were taken on vacation in Norway. I'm pretty contempt with the first
one, but the second one is lacking. I'd like your opinions on both on how I could improve them.

I tried to show the road winding through this snowy landscape. The road was opened only the week before.
You can see the road coming in the frame at the left and winding through the mountain in the center of the picture.

With the high f-stop number and somewhat slower shutter I tried to get rid of the harshness and sharpness of the
flowing water, but didn't get the effect I wanted.
