Spending watchdog accused of wasting thousands on 'vanity snaps'
The council spending watchdog has been accused of wasting thousands of pounds on vanity photography of drinks parties around London.
Frank Noon, a corporate photographer, was hired to take pictures of a number of events for the commission, including shots of its 25th anniversary celebrations.
His photographs also included images of special “alumni” events organised for current and former staff.
Mr Noon took photographs of staff at the BT Tower, Savoy Place, Lancaster House and the Reform Club.
A reply to a parliamentary question shows that £250 was paid to Mr Noon for 32 photographs as part of a launch in December 2009.
Portraits were also commissioned from a firm called Big Stick Photography, costing £1,670. A further £2,275 and £1,160 was paid to Big Stick “for a week’s worth of work in Sunderland” and for “on-site shoots in Stockport and London”.
“It is incredible that taxpayers’ money has been wasted on partying at some of the most expensive venues in London, with a personal photographer in tow.”
