Upgrading from Sigma 150-600mm contemporary to Canon RF 200-800mm

Obviously it's an extra 200mm but do you notice the extra reach? Can you photograph birds in flight? How does it work with teleconverters?

I did this last year. Huge difference in the reach and you will definitely feel it. The biggest difference is the auto focus. It is ten times faster. It "snaps" onto the subject. Id not use TC because the lens is so slow and tc will make it even worse. The birds are out early and late so for me it is just not feasible.

I actually brough out my 150-500 Sigma contemporary on this work trip. But I'm pairing it with a D7500 body this trip. I did get the 180-600 in Z flavor but not going to lug it on every business trip.

I tried from Canon test the kit these are both uncropped, I doubt I would keep either but to me there seems to be a difference

However the combination does cost more than I could sell my car for (although it has seen 8 prime ministers)

I should (too late now) have done this test. At a suitable distance got an assistant to bounce a tennis ball and see what percentage of photos were in focus. As testing on trained birds is difficult (not impossible if you have a friendly falconer) that would have been a good comparison. I say this in case anyone else is thinking of testing these or others lens.
