I am curious... Would it damage my dSLR to put it in one of the carrying compartments on a 4 wheeler?

Its a pretty rough ride for me.. lots of jarring and what not.... I'm wondering how my camera would deal with that... Even in its specially padded case or wrapped in a blanket... Would it be safe for such sensitive electronics?

I wouldn't do it, can you wear it around your neck instead?

Edit: Just put a tiny helmet on it :)

I could... But I would think the jarring and vibration would be worse...

Cute... I wonder if they sell full face helmets that small... :)

Edit: That might make a good shot... With the lens sticking out the face hole.

I'd probably expect the camera body to have more chance of surviving than the lenses from impact shock. However I'm aware of a few who use pelican cases for offroad/more bouncy adventures and in a solid built case with proper padding it seems to keep the gear just fine without any problems. Of course if you're doing some insane speedy jumps and such it might be best to leave the camera off, but for general moving around you should be ok.

I use pelican cases to carry my stuff by bicycle, sometimes off-road. The bumps are not as intense as the ones you experience, but, I also feel like my protection is overkill. If you're really worried you can even buy a pelican case with lots of room around your gear for padding. I left like an inch all the way around, with an inch between items, or thereabouts... but the cases come in every size you can imagine.
