Hi there, does anyone have any suggestions for how to get a good video of a projection.

I am an artist and am projecting claymation videos onto sculptures and I need to be able to record this properly. The problem I am having seems to be because of the strange glowing lightsource (and subject) of the projector and the dark room around it. Kind of like when you take a video of a tv show...or of a some video on your computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

It sounds like you are having a frame rate mismatch, causing a flickering effect? Or is it that the exposure is wrong? The latter is easily correctible, so I guess that it is the former. What frame rate are you projecting at? Does your projector have a variable frame rate? What frame rate are you videoing at (that used to be a simple question, not so simple now)? If your projector does have a variable frame rate, just try slowing it down or speeding it up and see if you can get the flickering to disappear.

You don't have to video at the same rate as the projector speed - the projector may be slower - but you need to stick to certain divisions of the video field (not necessarily frame) rate, and there are video camera shutter speed restrictions. For example, a film projector running at 24 fps usually shows 48 flashes of light per second, each of which lasts about 1/96 of a second. Every frame is shown twice (unless the projector has been modified for use with a video camera, in which case those numbers will be incorrect - it may only show each frame once).
