vintage, film-y or just plain bad?

I was messing around with this image, and i tried to make it look old, and film-y, with a vintage quality, but i think it might just look bad and grainy ...what do you think?

The problem with this is that it wasn't very good technically to begin with. That harsh shadow (pop up flash?) is unflattering and his expression doesn't convey anything except perhaps a deer in the headlights look. I'd try shooting in better lighting conditions, and change the composition some. your post processing seems OK, but it's really hard to tell without it being used on a very well exposed photograph.
