Vivitar 28mm 1:2.8 - two aperture scales

Hi all,

I just received a Vivitar 28mm 1:2.8 lens in a package deal with a Canon AE-1. I can't seem to figure out the aperture ring as there are two scales that range from 2.8-16 - starting all the way at the left scaling from 16-2.8, then again climbing up to 16 again to the right.

I cannot post a picture, but a simple google image search can yield a proper image of the aperture ring in question.

The scale that goes from 16 to 16 is a hyperfocus scale.
