Here's a pic from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This is the departure end of the Thurston Lava Tube. This first section is about 100 meters long and is lighted. There is a second section that starts at the gate Carol is standing at that is unlighted and 383 meters long. Couldn't get her to go exploring for some reason. I mean it's not like I didn't have a flashlight...

And the gallery is here.

Nice photobug!
Mysterious feelings :)

What are those in the celing???
Something like ropes :S

Those are the roots of the plants growing at ground level above the tube coming through the lava at the top of the tube. There's another shot of one in the gallery.

The many cracks in the lava allow rainwater to drip all throughout the tube length, so the floor is constantly wet & you get dripped on the whole time you're in there.

The tube is situated in the middle of a rain forest, though the vegetation isn't what I expected for a rain forest. I was thinking South America type and this looked much drier looking, but the end result is the same I guess.
