The "stripes" of light really work well against the blue of the water in this one. Plus the reflections of the bird and the log as you said.

It's amazing how differently light can reflect and give various effect in differing conditions. Sometimes a matter of minutes or less can make huge changes.

You should do more birding, that's a fantastic pic and you did well with the light on the bird itself, they're so dark it's hard to see any detail on them other than their faces and legs. Good work!
