WANTED: Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VR

Well I'm not really buying the 70-200 because of the VR, i'm buying it mainly for the superior autofocusing and sharpness as well as image quality.

Auto focusing yes, is improved however on the D90 you won't notice a difference between the 70-200 and the 80-200. Sharpness and Image Quality are almost identical. Not worth the $800 difference.

How about focusing speed?

That's what I meant by Auto focusing is improved on the 70-200 version. But it has nothing to do with the motor. It has to do with the light being sent to the af sensor. The af sensor on the D90 doesn't really benefit much from the advancements in this aspect of the lens. This is just from my experience. The 80-200 and 70-200 focus speed is identical on the D90 but on the D300s and D3 the 70-200 is much faster.

I actually just now looked at your sig... if you're upgrading from a 18-200 you'll be so blown away by how much better the 80-200 is you won't care about the 70-200. Again, if you could afford the 70-200 new then I'd say go for it. Always buy the best you can afford.

Yea I've actually never used the 80-200 AF-S but I have used the 70-200vr three times and I've been very impressed by it. If I was going to shoot with the D90 for the rest of my life I would have no problem immediately buying the 80-200 however I know I'll be upgrading to a D300 in the future, maybe even a D700 if I start making some good money.

Nothing wrong with that. That's why I purchased the 70-200 because I knew I was getting the D300s when it came out. Keep your eye open long enough you'll eventually either find one or save up enough to buy a new one :D

I love the 70-200 VR BUT I have been thinking about selling it. I really only use it for about 30 minutes during weddings but rarely take it on other shoots due to the size and weight of it. If $1200 is your budget you might want to seriously look at the 80-200. I thought about it but heard there was a back focus issue so if you can try it before you buy it that would be good.
