Water drop photography is addictive! I've only done about four times now, but it's just so much fun!

IMO, you're right, the first one is TOO low key; I kinda like the second one, though.
The last two are pretty cool--and I agree, the last one is fairly nice and sharp.

I've already started planning some different things to try; I did a "patriotic" series with milk and red & blue food coloring for July 4, but I've got some ideas I haven't really seen done much that I'm anxious to try. Of course, it may turn out that they aren't done much for a very good reason.

I am completely addicted to Water Drops as the Middle East summer is just too hot to go outside lol. I find that water works well from about 12-18 inches, whereby you will get some amazing shots if you use milk from around 24". However......Have some towels around as the splashes go everywhere. The depth of the receiving water has a big part to play on how big the "Gearshift" gets.

Thanks, that is helpful. Do you use different depths for the receiving water and milk? On these, the receiving water was about 2" deep.

I like the second more than the first, but I like both for the fact they are black. I can't remember seeing any that color before. Very sleek!

Looking at my setup shots (and trying to remember), I'm usually in excess of a 24" drop. I use a small water bottle with a hole drilled in the cap and squeeze. This will give you a surge of water resulting in a larger splash reaction.

Shots #2 and #4 are visually rewarding. This type of photography is approaching the commonplace this days, so...it has become rather hard to "Wow!" people with water drop shots in this, the internet age. I'd say keep shooting them, and hope against hope for the freak image where the water droplet turns out in the exact shape of say, Yoda...or maybe Princess Leia...

I also like #2 quite a bit; I gave water drops a shot a few months back, and it is quite a bit of fun (especially considering it costs next to nothing!). By the way (and completely of subject), I like your JK... Is it a Rubi? I have a YJ myself, and abuse it quite a bit!

Thanks! That's a stock photo of the JKU. I'm a JKU Noob still looking at getting my first in the near future. I'm eyeballing a 2012 JKU Crush Sport but part of me says to order the 2013 and wait for the build...
